This study evaluates the utilization of non-hazardous secondary sludge as planting media by characterizing sludge properties and assessing its performance when mixed with three different type of soils (Soil A, B, and C) and amendments. Sludge cake was blended with each soil type as a control, and further treatments incorporated (a) dolomite, (b) Trichoderma sp., and (c) a combination of both amendments. The mixtures were monitored over two weeks for C/N ratio and N, P, K content, following compost quality parameters. Results indicate that most mixtures achieved a C/N ratio ≥10 after two weeks, except for Soil A with and without dolomite. All treatments exceeded the minimum compost nutrient requirements set by SNI 19-7030-2004. The application of Trichoderma sp. produced the highest nutrient enhancement, with nitrogen reaching 1.8% and phosphorus reaching 4.0% in sludge–Soil C mixtures, while potassium peaked at 0.4% in sludge–Soil B with Trichoderma sp. These findings confirm that secondary sludge from beverage industry WWTPs can be processed into viable planting media or compost substitutes, supporting sustainable sludge management and circular economy practices.
Bara Mahendra, I D A A Warmadewanthi, Ervin Nurhayati, Arseto Yekti Bagastyo Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Purifikasi https://www.purifikasi.id/index.php/purifikasi/article/view/521 Mon, 08 Dec 2025 20:06:27 +0700 IMPLEMENTATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (ISO 14001:2015) IN WASTE MANAGEMENT AT PRIVATE SCHOOL IN SIDOARJO https://www.purifikasi.id/index.php/purifikasi/article/view/468
The objective is to evaluate the extent of degradation and analyze how current conservation policies align with scientific findings. Using the PRISMA 2020 framework, the review incorporates 25 peer-reviewed articles and official reports published between 2018 and 2024. The analysis highlights that major degradation indicators are concentrated in highly developed coastal zones such as Bolok, Lasiana, and Oesapa. Geospatial assessments using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS), NDVI, and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) revealed substantial shoreline retreat, mangrove loss exceeding 35%, and seasonal spikes in turbidity levels. Despite the availability of national and regional conservation frameworks, their implementation remains fragmented due to weak coordination, lack of adaptive planning, and limited use of scientific data. Community-based conservation efforts have demonstrated localized success but remain outside formal policy mechanisms. The study proposes an adaptive governance framework that integrates big data, remote sensing, socio-economic mapping, and participatory planning to strengthen resilience. Additionally, it suggests leveraging blue economy strategies, enhancing institutional capacity, and embedding conservation into economic policy as pathways toward sustainable coastal management. This research contributes an evidence-based model for improving conservation outcomes in Kupang and similar urban coastal settings across Indonesia.
Sri Rahayu Nuban, Aisyah Lukmini, Susanti Maria Yosefa Salu Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Purifikasi https://www.purifikasi.id/index.php/purifikasi/article/view/489 Tue, 09 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700 ANALISIS JEJAK KARBON PENGOLAHAN LIMBAH AIR SKALA PERKOTAAN DENGAN PENDEKATAN LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT (STUDI KASUS: IPAL X, JAKARTA SELATAN) https://www.purifikasi.id/index.php/purifikasi/article/view/498
An increase in population often leads to a surge in the volume of wastewater that must be treated. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) play a role in reducing environmental pollution caused by discharging wastewater into bodies of water. However, WWTPs are also a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and nitrous oxide (N₂O). This study aims to evaluate the carbon footprint generated by treating 1 m³ of domestic wastewater at the IPAL X unit. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach with gate-to-gate system limitations was used. Data processing was done with the help of the OpenLCA software program. According to the LCA analysis results, the Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR), Filtration, and Equalization Tank units produces the highest carbon footprint. This is due to the condition of waste management in Kendari City. The purpose of this study was to determine the existing condition, the knowledge, and the interest of the community regarding fecal sludge services. Qualitative data collected from interviews with stakeholders, random sampling questionnaire surveys, then analyzed using WEKA 3.9.8 software, technical and management evaluations using the shit flow diagrams, and City Sanitation Service Delivery (CSDA) are methods used to collect data and formulate conclusions comprehensively. The results showed that the low service coverage (0.004%) of the total population occurred because the obligation to subscribe to the program was only carried out within the scope of the Regional Government Organization, so that the society did not get clear information regarding this program. The readiness of service implementation so far is only 63%. The questionnaire analysis by WEKA 3.9.8 shows the lack of socialization is the main issue of low service coverage. 82.6% do not know about the L2T2 program, and only 17.4% know about it. 74.1% of the community has not received information regarding sludge services, even though 72.1% of the community is interested in this program. Shit Flow Diagram shows that only 6% of services are included in the safe category, in line with the City Sanitation Service Delivery, which shows that improving the data collection system, service inclusion, and strengthening the institutional framework have a high urgency to achieve the sustainability of this program.
Muhammad Degani, Ervin Nurhayati Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Purifikasi https://www.purifikasi.id/index.php/purifikasi/article/view/508 Tue, 09 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700 EVALUASI TEKNIS KEHILANGAN AIR MINUM DI PERUMDAM KOTA MAGELANG: STUDI KASUS PADA DISTRICT METERED AREA (DMA) PERUM KORPRI https://www.purifikasi.id/index.php/purifikasi/article/view/507
The high level of non-revenue water (NRW) poses a significant challenge in managing the water supply system of Perumdam Kota Magelang, especially in the Perum Korpri District Metered Area (DMA), which recorded a 56.16% loss from a total annual input volume of 171,770 m³. This study aims to evaluate the technical aspects of water loss and formulate NRW reduction strategies based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The methods include the collection of primary and secondary data, water balance analysis using WB-Easy Calc, and hydraulic network simulation through EPANET 2.2. The evaluation focuses on network pressure, consumption fluctuations, and meter accuracy. The results indicate that high pressure during minimum demand hours significantly contributes to physical leakage. Proposed mitigation strategies include the implementation of step-test, installation of Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs), calibration of district inlet meter, and the application of an IoT-based SCADA system for real-time monitoring. The integration of these technologies is expected to enhance operational efficiency and extend the lifespan of the water distribution network.
Ekadhana Chana Pratama, Ervin Nurhayati, Dian Suci Hastuti Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Purifikasi https://www.purifikasi.id/index.php/purifikasi/article/view/507 Tue, 09 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0700 PROTOTIPE SISTEM MONITORING SUHU DAN KELEMBABAN UNTUK PENGENDALIAN LINGKUNGAN MIKRO BERBASIS IoT PADA RUANG KOLEKSI BERISIKO DI FASILITAS PUBLIK https://www.purifikasi.id/index.php/purifikasi/article/view/470
The museum is a cultural preservation institution that stores various valuable collections, including the Ethnography room of the Penataran Museum which stores ethnographic objects with high cultural value. However, the extreme conditions at these mining locations necessitate the validation of planting media to ensure the success of initial plant propagation. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of commercial growth medium and limestone soil sourced from the Berkah Sari Bumi Rembang mine site as the initiation media for the early growth of revegetation plants, specifically utilizing maize (Zea mays L.) and groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) as test species. Generative propagation was conducted in a greenhouse for 30 days, involving physical observation and plant height measurement every 7 days. The primary parameter observed was plant height, assessed using the relative growth rate (RGR). The results showed a significant difference in growth rates between the plants grown in the two media. In the commercial growth medium, all maize and groundnut plants survived until the end of the propagation period with significant growth; the highest plant height was recorded by the BISI-2 maize variety at 51.4 cm on Day 30, with the best growth rate of 0.11 cm/week during the 14-21day period. Conversely, the limestone soil exhibited very slow growth. Most plants died before the propagation period was complete, and the only surviving plant was the BISI-2 maize variety, reaching a maximum height of only 5.5 cm on Day 14. The commercial growth medium is the recommended choice for propagation due to its sufficient nutrient content and good water retention ability, making it ideal for preparing optimal plants before they are transferred for the main study on limestone soil.
Probowati Isworo Giansiswi, Harmin Sulistyaning Titah Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Purifikasi https://www.purifikasi.id/index.php/purifikasi/article/view/520 Thu, 11 Dec 2025 21:32:46 +0700
